Course Overview

In this course you will learn about risk management processes including how to identify, assess and control hazards and risk through a Risk Assessment, and the role and process of creating a Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS).

Course Outcomes

On completion of the course you will be able to:

  • Plan and prepare for risk control
  • Assess and identify unacceptable risk
  • Identify, assess and implement risk treatments
  • Complete records and reports

Upon successful completion of this course you will receive a Statement of Attainment.

    Course Duration

    This course is one (1) day.

    Entry Requirements

    All learners must be 16 years or older and will be required to provide photographic identification upon arriving for their course.

    • In South Australia a child of compulsory school age (between 6-16 years of age) cannot be employed during the hours that they are required to attend school or participate in an approved training program.
    • If you are under 16 years of age, you can still apply for Civil Train SA courses, but you will need to talk to your School’s principal to discuss your exemption. The principal will provide you with the appropriate exemption application form and tell you what evidence or documentation is required.

    As part of your course enrolment at Civil Train there is a requirement that you complete a short online quiz. This will assist Civil Train to understand your current levels of language, literacy and numeracy (LLN), to ensure you are at the appropriate level to successfully complete your selected training course. This is a one-time quiz and results will be saved to your learner file and referred to for all future enrolments.

    Language, Literacy and Numeracy skills required for this course include:

    • communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify treatment information
    • communicating clearly and concisely the likelihood and consequence of an identified risk
    • reporting written information about risk assessment and treatment implementation
    • reading, preparing and using worksite safety systems information

    Please note: Civil Train only carries out assessments in English.  If English is your second language, you may engage a professional (accredited) and independent translator at your cost, for training purposes only.  However, you will be required to undertake the assessment in English without the aid of your translator.

    This course is delivered and assessed face to face.
    There are theory and practical training and assessment components to the course.

    Public courses are scheduled frequently in Adelaide.
    This course can also be delivered regionally or Civil Train can come to your worksite to deliver training to a group of employees – please contact the office for regional locations and dates.
