Course Overview

Forklift operation has been classed as high risk work since 1 September 2010. To undertake this work you need a Licence to Perform High Risk Work.

Forklift truck (Class LF) – covers the operation of a powered industrial truck equipped with a mast and an elevating load carriage to which is attached a pair of fork arms or other attachment.

Course Outcomes

On completion of the course you will be able to:

  • Plan work
  • Conduct routine checks
  • Shift load
  • Shut down and secure forklift truck

Upon successful completion of this course you will receive a Statement of Attainment.

SA

You will also be issued with a tax invoice which you can use to get your High Work Risk Licence within 60 days from an Australian Post Office or Service SA Centre at an additional cost of $83.50*.

NT

To receive your High Risk Licence you need to submit your completed application (provided by Civil Train), together with payment (currently $76**) and all supporting documents to the Territory Business Centre.

    Course Duration

    This course is two (2) days.

    Entry Requirements

    All learners must be 18 years or older for licensing requirements and will be required to provide photographic identification upon arriving for their course.

    As part of your course enrolment at Civil Train there is a requirement that you complete a short online quiz. This will assist Civil Train to understand your current levels of language, literacy and numeracy (LLN), to ensure you are at the appropriate level to successfully complete your selected training course. This is a one-time quiz and results will be saved to your learner file and referred to for all future enrolments.

    Please note: Civil Train only carries out assessments in English.

    The applicant must be able to use the English language at a level that is appropriate for the safe use and operation of the particular class of equipment. As an example, the applicant must be able to read and comprehend hazard warning signs, load charts, data plates and any other safe operating requirement. The applicant must be able to communicate this information to the registered assessor.

    If English is your second language, you may engage a professional (accredited) and independent translator at your cost, for training purposes only.  However, you will be required to undertake the assessment in English without the aid of your translator.

    Learners will be required to have access to an email account, internet access and a computer to facilitate the online learning that is required to be done before attending the course.

    NT

    Learners will be sent a course workbook which must be read before attending the course.

    You must be a resident of the Northern Territory, or provide a letter from your employer that you are a fly in/fly out worker in the NT, to be able to apply for a High Risk licence in the Northern Territory.

    Public courses are scheduled frequently in Adelaide, Alice Springs and Darwin.
