Course Overview

On 1 October 2018, the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) was amended to provide that EVERY PARTY in the heavy vehicle transport supply chain has a duty to ensure the safety of their transport activities.

The loading and unloading of plant from a transporter must be handled carefully to ensure the safety of workers in the area and the integrity of the plant. This course covers preparing plant for loading, including applicable permits and securing the equipment. You will go through the process of moving plant and unloading it safely.

This course further includes the non-accredited module of restraining plant and equipment, which includes:

  • Loading for Transport (Load Restraint Guide)
  • General Principles of Load Restraint
  • Restraining Loads on Vehicles
  • Calculating Restraint Requirements
  • Securing Equipment
  • Types of restraint
  • Lashing points
  • Loads secured using correct load restraint

Course Outcomes

On completion of the course you will be able to:

  • Prepare to load and unload plant
  • Load the plant in line with established requirements
  • Unload the plant in line with established requirements

Upon successful completion of the course you will receive a Statement of Attainment.

    Course Duration

    This course is one (1) day.

    Entry Requirements

    All learners must be 16 years or older and will be required to provide photographic identification upon arriving for their course.

    • In South Australia a child of compulsory school age (between 6-16 years of age) cannot be employed during the hours that they are required to attend school or participate in an approved training program.
    • If you are under 16 years of age, you can still apply for Civil Train SA courses, but you will need to talk to your School’s principal to discuss your exemption. The principal will provide you with the appropriate exemption application form and tell you what evidence or documentation is required.

    As part of your course enrolment at Civil Train there is a requirement that you complete a short online quiz. This will assist Civil Train to understand your current levels of language, literacy and numeracy (LLN), to ensure you are at the appropriate level to successfully complete your selected training course. This is a one-time quiz and results will be saved to your learner file and referred to for all future enrolments.

    Language, Literacy and Numeracy skills required for this course include:

    •  Identifying and interpreting relevant information from workplace procedures, documentation, legislation and regulations
    • Identifying and comprehending relevant mathematical information in relation to equipment operating capacities

    Please note: Civil Train only carries out assessments in English.  If English is your second language, you may engage a professional (accredited) and independent translator at your cost, for training purposes only.  However, you will be required to undertake the assessment in English without the aid of your translator.

    Delivery & Assessment

    This course is delivered and assessed face to face.
    There are theory and practical training and assessment components to the course.

    Public courses are scheduled frequently in Adelaide.

    In both SA and WA Civil Train can come to your worksite to deliver training to a group of employees if you have plant equipment available onsite – please contact the office for a quote.
