HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

HLTAID003 Provide First Aid

Course Overview

Ensure you can cope with any emergency first aid situation, whatever industry you are in.

Formerly known as ‘Senior First Aid’ and ‘Apply First Aid’, the aim of this course is to provide the necessary skills and knowledge to sustain life, reduce pain and minimise the consequences of injury or sudden illness until professional help arrives.

Course Outcomes

  • On completion of the course you will be able to:
  • Respond to an emergency situation
  • Perform CPR procedures
  • Communicate details of the incident
  • Apply appropriate first aid procedures
  • Evaluate the incident and own performance
  • If successful you will receive a Statement of Attainment from St John Ambulance SA
  • As per the First Aid in the Workplace Code of Practice, First Aiders should attend training on a regular basis to refresh their first aid knowledge and skills and to confirm their competence to provide first aid
  • Refresher training in CPR should be undertaken annually and first aid qualification should be renewed every three years

Course Duration

This course is one day (8 hours), plus 1 hour pre-reading.

Entry Requirements

ALL LEARNERS WILL BE REQUIRED TO PROVIDE PHOTOGRAPHIC IDENTIFICATION UPON ARRIVING FOR THEIR COURSE.

Entrants will need a level of language and literacy skills to enable them to meet the requirements of the course.

Civil Train SA recommends year 10 school completion or equivalent as a guide to the level required for short courses.

Learners will required to read the provided training document before attendance at the course (unless they can evidence of existing knowledge or previous certificate).

Delivery & Assessment

This course is delivered and assessed face to face, by St John Ambulance SA (RTO no 88041).

Learners will be required to pre–read the training document.

There are theory and practical training and assessment components to the course. This course includes an assessment in both and adult AND baby manikins and includes the use of:

• A Bronchodilator (asthma)
• An auto-injector- Epipen (anaphylaxis)
• A defibrillator

Public courses are scheduled frequently at Civil Train SA offices in Thebarton.

Personal Protective Equipment

Enclosed footwear is a minimum requirement for all Civil Train SA sites. Other sites may have other requirements which will be confirmed at the time of booking.
