Learners must be able to have regular and consistent on-the-job access to the tasks of the units selected.

Course Overview

This qualification reflects the role of a skilled operator working in civil construction plant, who applies a broad range of skills in a varied work context, using some discretion and judgement and relevant theoretical knowledge. The individual may provide theoretical advice and support a team.

Course Duration

This program is offered as a 36 month apprenticeship (WA) or 36 month Contract of Training (SA). Formal training may be completed in a shorter amount of time.

Entry Requirements

  • Civil Train will conduct a Foundation Skills entry assessment at a level required to successfully complete the qualification and work in the industry at the level required for this qualification. Potential clients who are identified as not meeting course entry requirements will be assisted with referral to appropriate support services.
  • In general, participants will need to be physically fit due to the nature of the work.
  • Civil Train will conduct a suitability interview prior to enrolment
  • Entrants will be required to be employed in the civil construction industry
  • Entrants will be required to have a White Card prior to starting training on the qualification

Delivery & Assessment

There are theory and practical training and assessment components to the course.

Skills will be trained and assessed through a mixture of off-the-job and on-the-job training and assessment.

You may be able to seek recognition for your previous studies or experience. Civil Train offers Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), Recognition of Current Competency (RCC) and Credit Transfer (CT) for this qualification.

Credit Transfer

Credit transfer involves assessing a previously completed course or subject to see if it provides equivalent learning or competency outcomes to those required within the current course of study.

RPL & RCC

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Recognition of Current Competency (RCC) provides students with an opportunity to have their current skills and competencies recognised.
These skills and competencies may relate to units that they are about to commence and as a result may exempt them from studying these units.
