Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) provides a pathway for experienced traffic controllers and those responsible for traffic management implementation on a site and road workers under their direction, as described in the Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management on Temporary Traffic Management Category 1 environments.
Traffic Controllers play a crucial role in managing the movement and safety of vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, and workers, particularly in areas where automated traffic control systems are unavailable. This includes sites such as road works, construction zones, public events, and emergency situations. Their primary duty is to ensure the smooth flow of traffic while prioritising safety for all individuals involved.
Traffic Management Implementer is an individual responsible for implementing traffic management measures in Temporary Traffic Management Category 1 environments. This role involves ensuring the safe and efficient flow of traffic in accordance with the guidelines outlined in the Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management. The skills and knowledge required for this role include understanding traffic management principles, setting up traffic control devices, and coordinating traffic flow to minimize disruptions and ensure the safety of road users and workers.

Ensure that all key elements, including your personal information, past competencies, evidence of performance, and third-party report, are accurate and complete. This document will then offer a comprehensive summary of your skills and experiences.
Please then allow our team 5 business days for an approved Assessor to review your application. The assessor will review your application and may contact you for further clarification or additional information if necessary.

After completing the necessary steps, await notification from the Approved Training Provider (ATP) assessor regarding the outcome of your RPL application. If successful you will receive your Statement of Attainment for both skill sets and also the localised content assessment to complete, in order to obtain your Department of Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) licence.
Please note: Austroads has developed this Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Assessment Tool Kit to assist Approved Trainer Providers (ATPs) in conducting RPL for different Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) national training programs approved by DIT. Civil Train SA is required to comply with the Service Agreement, which strictly prohibits any changes to this document.

*If your RPL application does not pass Step 1: Prepare for RPL & Eligibility Check, you will receive a refund of the application fee, minus a $100 administration fee. If you proceed and are deemed unsuccessful with your RPL at the conclusion of the assessment, no additional refund will be provided.
