Course Overview

‘Working at height’ is whenever people are at risk of falling from, into or through one level to another or at risk of hitting others below with falling objects.

When working at height, preparation and planning are essential. Falls from height can leave employees with permanent and debilitating injuries. Falls often occur from roofs, scaffolds, ladders, trucks and mezzanine floors or into pits or holes, although falls from less than one metre can result in serious injury.

Course Outcomes

On completion of the course you will be able to:

  • Identify work requirements
  • Identify work procedures and instructions
  • Access and install equipment
  • Perform work at heights
  • Clean up work area

Upon successful completion, you will receive a Statement of Attainment and plastic card to keep in your wallet to show competency. Industry recommends this course is renewed every two years.

    Entry Requirements

    All learners must be 16 years or older and will be required to provide photographic identification upon arriving for their course.

    • In South Australia a child of compulsory school age (between 6-16 years of age) cannot be employed during the hours that they are required to attend school or participate in an approved training program.
    • If you are under 16 years of age, you can still apply for Civil Train SA courses, but you will need to talk to your School’s principal to discuss your exemption. The principal will provide you with the appropriate exemption application form and tell you what evidence or documentation is required.

    As part of your course enrolment at Civil Train there is a requirement that you complete a short online quiz. This will assist Civil Train to understand your current levels of language, literacy and numeracy (LLN), to ensure you are at the appropriate level to successfully complete your selected training course. This is a one-time quiz and results will be saved to your learner file and referred to for all future enrolments.

    Please note: Civil Train only carries out assessments in English.  If English is your second language, you may engage a professional (accredited) and independent translator at your cost, for training purposes only.  However, you will be required to undertake the assessment in English without the aid of your translator.

    Learners must be comfortable to work at heights, this is a requirement for your assessment.

    Delivery & Assessment

    This course is delivered and assessed face to face.

    There are theory and practical training and assessment components to the course.

    Public courses are scheduled frequently in Adelaide and Alice Springs.

    Working at Heights is also delivered regionally – please contact the office for regional locations and dates.

    Civil Train can come to your worksite to deliver Working at Heights training to a group of employees – please contact the office for a quote.
