Basic Worksite Traffic Management (BWTM)

Are you working or planning to work in traffic management? In WA, you need to be accredited by Main Roads WA.


Course Overview

The Basic Worksite Traffic Management (BWTM) accreditation is a Main Roads WA mandatory requirement for those controlling traffic on or near roads within WA. This nationally accredited course provides the skills and knowledge required to implement a traffic management plan, install and maintain traffic management signs and minimise the safety risk to all road users and workers.

Civil Train Western Australia is a Main Roads WA approved training provider.


Course Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course participants will be issued with the Main Roads WA accreditation and ID card, and a Statement of Attainment for the following nationally recognised units:

  • RIICOM201D Communicate in the workplace
  • RIIWHS201D Work safely and follow WHS policies and procedures
  • RIIWHS302D Implement traffic management plan

Main Roads WA accreditation is valid for 3 years before a refresher accreditation is required.



  • 1.5 Days (12 hours)



Delivery and Assessment

  • This course is delivered face to face at our Jandakot training facility.
  • There are theory and practical training and assessment components to the course.




Public courses are scheduled frequently at the Civil Contractors Federation WA Training Facility – 70 Verde Drive Jandakot.

Entry Requirements

Prior to enrolment you will be required to provide evidence that you hold:

  • A WorkSafe Construction Safety Awareness Card (White or Blue card)
  • A Unique Student Identifier (USI)

Entrants will need a level of language and literacy skills to enable them to meet the requirements of the course. Civil Train recommends year 10 school completion or equivalent as a guide to the level required for short courses. The entrant must be able to use the English language at a level that is appropriate to:

  • comply with written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures
  • communicate clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions
  • communicate clearly and concisely with others to resolve coordination requirements prior to commencing and during work activities
  • identify and select appropriate traffic guidance scheme and implement traffic management plan
  • apply legislative requirements
  • describe the effects of travel speed and vehicle mass on stopping distances



Personal Protective Equipment

Enclosed, safety footwear, long pants, long sleeved shirts with hi-vis, gloves and safety glasses are required. Other sites may have other requirements which will be confirmed at the time of booking. Failure to wear correct PPE may prevent the participant from completing the practical training and/or assessment.

Course fee $250

Course fee with CTF subsidy applied $75

(Course fees include MRWA accreditation)


The Construction Training Fund (CTF) provides funding support for training of eligible workers in the construction industry.  We acknowledge and support the Construction Training Fund in reducing the costs of the training for eligible workers.
